Sanata Dharma University (USD), in collaboration with MPBI and Day of AI Indonesia, will hold a webinar entitled “Generative AI for Education: Ethics, Practices, and Collaboration” on May 22, 2026, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM WIB at USD Campus II, Central Building, Kadarman Room, 4th Floor, as well as online via Zoom. The webinar will be conducted in both onsite and online formats to enable broader participation from educators, students, researchers, and the general public.

The event responds to the increasingly widespread use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indonesian education. According to international studies, more than 800 research papers on AI in education have already been published. However, only a small number of these studies provide strong causal evidence that AI significantly improves student learning outcomes. This situation indicates that the education sector is still in the process of identifying evidence-based, ethical, and contextually appropriate approaches to AI integration.

Prof. Dr. Ismunandar, who leads Day of AI Indonesia, emphasized the importance of developing critical and human-centered AI literacy from an early stage. According to him, “AI should not merely be understood as a practical technological tool, but also as a learning medium that requires ethical awareness, critical reflection, and social responsibility.”

Within this context, the collaboration between USD and Day of AI Indonesia is expected to create a shared platform for lecturers, teachers, students, and the wider public to discuss responsible AI practices in Indonesian classrooms. The webinar is also supported by Paragon through its *Wardah Inspiring Teachers* program.

As part of the program, the webinar will feature a panel discussion involving representatives from several English Language Education Study Programs in Yogyakarta. The participating institutions include Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta, represented by Daniel Ari Widiatama; Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta, represented by Dr. Suryo Sudiro; Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta, represented by Dr. Mohammad Iskandar Dzulkurnain; Universitas Islam Indonesia, represented by Puji Rahayu, Ph.D.; and Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana, represented by Dr. Paulus Widiatmoko.

Through this panel discussion, the organizers hope that ethically acceptable and pedagogically responsible AI practices will become more widely recognized, discussed, and understood among educators and academic communities.

The event also carries a special connection to the USD academic community, as Markus Budiraharjo, a lecturer in the English Language Education Study Program at USD, has been serving as a volunteer with Day of AI Indonesia since early 2025. His involvement reflects ongoing efforts to build contextual, inclusive, and locally relevant AI literacy networks in Indonesia.
